Getting the Facts straight

As to be expected, those in opposition of the Marriage Amendment have launched a negative campaign against what they call Amendment One.  The name change is one of many methods used to confuse the issue.  The media has picked up the phrase as well.  However, the name change is mild compared to the false rhetoric and outlandish TV ads that began airing in the past few weeks.  The accusations concerning the desire to harm the elderly and take away health care from children have nothing to do with the Marriage Amendment.

The Marriage Protection Amendment is simply a constitutional provision to protect the laws that are already in place in North Carolina.  The Amendment clearly states  “Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts.”  In an effort to clarify the very things that those who oppose the amendment are claiming it will harm, the amendment clearly protects individuals and businesses from choosing to enter into a contract with one another regardless of whether they are married.  Let’s simply be clear.  The opposition knew that they could not argue for homosexual union in the public square in North Carolina.  Therefore, they have devised a carefully crafted plan to play on the fears and the unfortunate realities in the lives of many in N.C.  As result, many clear minded, Bible believing Christians are being confused.

Do not be deceived.  Educate yourselves.  I have provided a link to several articles that are worth you time to read.  They are not from preachers.  The following articles were written by lawyers.  The first was written by Paul Stam, a member of the NC House of Representatives and a practicing attorney who is a constitutional litigator.  The second post is from a group of law professors from Campbell Law School.

Last, I wanted you to see a TV ad that is for the amendment and refutes the false ads.  Vote FOR Marriage NC Launches New TV Ad Refuting False Claims About Amendment – YouTube

I encourage you to post on Facebook and other avenues to share this information with as many as possible.  Remember, the crucial thing that we must all do is vote FOR the Marriage Amendment.
